Pallet Buying Guide
Everything You Need to Buy Pallets in Ottawa
From new builds to used pallets and custom designs, Ottawa Pallet Company connects you with partner suppliers who can provide the right pallet for your schedule and budget.
Pallets Available Through Partners
New Wood Pallets
Typically built from kiln-dried hardwood or softwood to GMA specifications, in sizes such as 48"x40", 42"x42", 48"x48", and custom dimensions. Load capacity depends on design and condition; confirm with the supplier.
Heat-Treated Pallets
ISPM 15 heat-treated pallets are available through partner suppliers. The IPPC mark is applied by a certified heat-treatment facility, not by us; ask the supplier about any paperwork your shipment needs.
Recycled & Used Pallets
Grade A, B, or C used pallets, graded by partner suppliers for condition. Grade B and C usually cost less than Grade A, and reusing a pallet avoids building a new one.
Custom Builds
Non-standard footprints, specialty materials, and designs for specific loads, built by partner suppliers that offer custom work. Lead time depends on the supplier.
Specialty Pallets
Four-way entry, nestable, and heavy-duty reinforced pallets for industry-specific requirements, depending on partner availability.
Understanding Pallets
- What they do: Provide a stable base for forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyors while maximizing vertical storage and protecting goods from ground moisture.
- Standard sizes: 48"x40" (GMA) for grocery/retail, 42"x42" for telecom and paint, 48"x48" for industrial loads, 48"x45" for automotive, and 36"x36" for beverages.
- Common users: Warehousing, manufacturing, retail, e-commerce, food & beverage, and construction.
- Benefits: Faster handling, better product protection, safer workplaces, and seamless compatibility across the supply chain.
What to Check Before You Order
Partner suppliers can tell you how their pallets are built and graded. Used pallets are usually checked for split boards, loose fasteners, and damaged components. Before you order, it helps to confirm:
- Exact dimensions and entry type (two-way or four-way)
- Grade and condition of used pallets
- Load capacity for your application, which depends on design and condition
- Whether your shipment needs ISPM 15 heat-treated pallets
Heat Treatment Compliance
ISPM 15 heat treatment brings the wood core to 56°C for 30 minutes to eliminate pests. A certified facility then applies the IPPC mark. Partner suppliers in our network can supply heat-treated pallets for export loads.
ISPM 15 is the international standard many countries apply to wood packaging in export shipments; check the requirements for your destination.
